The UNCCD solution aims to increase awareness, knowledge and technology to combat desertification. Despite only meets the first criteria of preventing desertification and its recurrence, we recommend this solution. However in order for it to meet the second criteria, we propose the additional use of the holistic management approach, where grazing herds migrate over a large area to trample the land, changing the arid soil into healthy and fertile soils. The reason this has not been used is due to misunderstanding of overgrazing, which is thought to be the problem of the decline of grasslands and desertification. Therefore it is proposed that the UNCCD use an effective strategy, like the holistic management approach, to reverse the effects of desertification in the Middle East and other affected regions.
The EEAA has successfully addressed the issue of desertification in Egypt and is currently resolving the issue on a National scale. Therefore it is recommended that the strategy of implementation of a suitable NEAP be used by the environmental judiciaries of other countries in the Middle East and around the world.
Overall it is recommended that countries in and out of the Middle East use a NEAP, which uses the holistic management approach. Groups should also use the holistic management approach as it one of the most successful and effective strategies to combat desertification.
